In Atman the layers of paint build a dense, almost organic structure. Traces of the palette knife, vertical runs and the contrast between cool greys and luminous accents of yellow create a space in constant motion.

The title refers to the Sanskrit notion of ātman – the inner essence or consciousness. It is not, however, an illustration of a philosophical idea. The painting is an attempt to capture the tension between matter and the invisible, between the physicality of paint and an experience that reaches beyond its materiality.
